Two parishes welcome Barbara Crafton for a Saturday Quiet Day and Sunday preaching. March 13 Lenten Retreat 9:00-12:30 at St. Luke's, 939 Hinman Avenue, Evanston, IL 60202 Tel: 847-475-3630 A Spiritual Life for Hard Times I came that they might have life and have it abundantly, Jesus says in the Gospel of John. Abundance? Where?!? These are hard times -- and hard times can make us hard. Hard, and harsh with ourselves and with one another. But Jesus doesn't make empty promises. Let's take a Lenten morning and gently examine what abundant life might mean if it doesn't mean putting our heads in the sand. Can I face the world's sorrows with an unwavering eye and still know joy? I would argue that we can -- indeed, I think that such honesty is the only way to the true peace everyone wants March 14 Forum and Preaching at St. Matthew's, 2120 Lincoln Street Evanston, IL 60201 Tel: 847.869.4850 9:30 Sunday Forum with Barbara Crafton: "As Time Goes By" We measure out our lives in time, but what is it, really? Friend or enemy? And what on earth does have to so with our faith?

Song and Story: A Noisy Day at Church of the Holy Trinity, NYC
Enough already with the quiet days! Christ is risen, and sometimes you just want to cut loose. And who better to do it with than composer/singer/drummer/writer Ana Hernandez -- oh, right, she plays the trumpet, too -- and Barbara Crafton. $20 includes lunch -- yes, amazing soups made by Ana and Barbara, who will also be making the soup bowls out of Jersey clay and blowing the glass themselves for the handmade drinking glasses. Not. Holy Trinity is at 316 East 88th Street in NYC. Reservations are a must: email Joanna at molc@geraniumfarm.org or telehone 732-762-1767. You're already on the Farm, so you know it. But visit www.anahermusic.com to see what Ana's up to, and come join us for a spirit-filled day of chant, stories, prayer, food and fun.

Companions of the Holy Cross, Adelynrood, Byfield, MA
A Spirituality of Joy and Sorrow If it's true that everyone really has only one sermon, here is mine: Life is hard, but God is good. I have been thinking for some years about the emotional rhythm of human life -- the normal rhythm of it, as well as the rhythm of its disturbance. My most recent book, Jesus Wept, deals with the manner in which the life of faith interacts, for good as well as for ill, with clinical depression. We will look back at our lives, the joys and sorrows of them, and come to terms with the presence of God in it all. - Barbara Crafton, retreat leader. Visit www.adelynrood.org.
